ODE TO A POSTCODE
20-22 September 2019, The Civic Theatre
An Ode. A song. A love letter. We're inviting people to write and post personal letters addressed to Tallaght.
Travel to Tallaght accompanied by our radio play before stepping into our live installation. It's a changing space. A post office. A place to laugh and sing and dance with the people who built a city, whether you're a true Tallafornian or you're just passing through.

Ode to a Postcode was an interactive installation piece based on a nationwide callout for letters addressed to Tallaght. Freshly Ground Theatre received over 120 letters through our online postbox as well as our physical postboxes placed around Tallaght. A series of these letters were turned into original, bespoke songs and performed in a live installation. Each original letter that we received was also displayed in the space.

Below you can listen to the radio play which accompanied the installation. This radio play explores the story of Tallaght from its roots as a monastic settlement to the sprawling suburb it is today. This radio play was designed to accompany the listener on their way to the show.

PRESS
'The cast of Freshly Ground elevate this from a static installation piece, to a delightfully theatrical experience, using the medium of song. At every “sitting’, a different selection of songs are performed. These songs are more letters, set to music, all the work of the company. What follows is charming, like an afternoon cabaret, the music and acting give a great sense of the infectious vitality that Freshly Ground Theatre have consistently offered up to their audience.’
